19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after that period of that year.

The win also indicates he has won twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional championship, took control to force a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
